Aramean Genocide:
Aramean Organizations met with the Parliamentarian Harry van Bommel of
the (Dutch) Socialist Party on the situation in Turkey.
Dutch Version
On Monday 26-1-2009, a
delegation of Aramean Organizations met with the Dutch Parliamentarian
Harry van Bommel of the Socialist Party (SP) on the situation of the Arameans
in Turkey.
The Aramnahrin organization had
prepared a dossier, consisted of two books and a report, entitled “Arameans
& Aramean Genocide”. During the meeting the dossier was
presented to Mr. van Bommel on behalf of the following organizations,
namely:
·
The Arameans of Aram-Nahrin
Organisation,
·
The Aramean Democratic
Organisation, and
·
Platform Aram.
Aramean Genocide:

The central point of the
meeting, also the guideline in the report, was the Aramean genocide. The
reasons for not recognizing the genocide, which had led to the Aramean
Diaspora, was discussed in detail.
In addition to the Aramean
physical genocide, also the Aramean spiritual genocide and
responsibility of the West was discussed in length. It also was
emphasized that the spiritual genocide had enforced the physical
genocide. Amongst others, the current situation of the Arameans in Iraq
was mentioned as example of the devastating effect of the spiritual
genocide. Also was discussed in detail the horrible consequences of the
spiritual genocide, the cause of sorrow and mutual division, which
prevents the human rights improvement and development of the Arameans
worldwide
Arameans:
In addition to the Aramean
physical and spiritual genocide, also the glorious and rich Aramean
heritage was discussed which today is being trampled and persecuted by
people who are relatively new comers in the lands of the Aramean
forefathers. While the Arameans have left an undeniable mark on the
cultural development and civilizations in this part of the world, today
they completely are being ignored, persecuted, marginalized, ragged and
ethnic cleansed by the invaders who now consider themselves as the
legitimate owners of the indigenous Aramean land.
Tur
Abdin: Saint Gabriel Monastery.
During the 1 hour and 15 minutes
meeting also were discussed in length the present law-suits against the
monastery by Turkey and the three surrounding Kurdish villages. The
law-suits are the such-and-such incidents and harassments in line
against the Arameans of Tur Abdin to make them aware that they should
not make any illusion about who the real owners are of this part of the
world.
Because of killings, discrimination and exclusion, the Arameans
of Tur Abdin were forced to flee to the West. Thirty years ago there
were 40-50.000 Arameans in Tur Abdin, while now there are but 2.000 of
them left in Tur Abdin.
