Press release

  Dispatch UN investigators to join the Lebanese Army investigators in proceeding in their interrogation of the Lebanese Army officers and soldiers under arrest.

 Washington, Cedars News, Feb 4th, 2008

 Since the Lebanese Army has proceeded in investigating the violent riots which took place on 26 of January 2008 and the violence that ensued; and since the Lebanese Army command has proceeded to put a number of officers and soldiers under arrest in the process of investigation;

 And in view of the fact that the Terror aggressions have been taking place in Lebanon since the fall of 2004 and have resulted in the assassination and killing of a number of public figures and military personnel, and despite the fact that all these investigations have not yielded results;

 And in view of the fact that the riots of  (Al-Shiah/Mar Mikheil) and the subsequent incidents took place at the vicinity of what is called “security squares” of Beirut’s Southern Suburbs which are under the exclusive control of the organization by the name Hezbollah;

 And in view of the fact that the armed network, outside the Lebanese Army and the UNIFIL which claim the possession of weapons is Hezbollah’s militia;

  And in view of the fact that Hezbollah’s spokespersons have declared in the Lebanese, Arab and international media that they represent the rioters politically;

 Therefore, the Executive Committee of the World Council of the Cedars Revolution (WCCR) formally request from the Secretary General of the United Nations to proceed with the following action, under his authority and the aegis of UNSCR 1559

  1)       To dispatch UN investigators to join the Lebanese Army investigators in proceeding in their interrogation of the Lebanese Army officers and soldiers under arrest as well as any other person under arrest or investigation in the same incidents.

2)       To call for the investigation and arrest of Hezbollah’s militia operatives in charge of the geographic zone where the incidents took place. UN investigators should question these operatives and compare their information with the information revealed by the Lebanese officers.

 3)       In view of the fact that Resolution UNSCR 1559 wasn’t implemented yet, and thus illegal militias are still in control of activities including in the capital Beirut, the UN investigators must inform the Secretary General of the result of their investigations and forward the results obtained by the Lebanese Army investigators.
