More Defections; Assad Prepares for a Massacre

Several defections took place today in the Mazze Military airport in the Damascus suburb of Moadamiya. Mutineers clashed with Assad loyalists using heavy machineguns, causing the loyalists to reinforce their ranks with helicopters. Damascus suburbs witnessed a strong wave of defections in the past few weeks, which usually end with mutineers escaping to the surrounding areas and are in turn chased by Assad loyalists.

Assad’s military campaign intensified in Homs, where regime militias invaded the neighborhoods of Deir Baalba, Khaldiya, Karm Shami, Bab Draib, Jobar, Bayada, Tal al-Shour, City Centre, Souq Hasheesh, Warsheh, Abu Aouf St, and the Castle vicinity; and the cities of Hoola, Talbisa and Qasir. Dozens of tanks, armored units and buses were brought in to these areas under heavy fire and sporadic shelling. Some defected security units reported that the regime is providing its militias with fake ID cards carrying the family names of local Homsi families to ease their infiltration of demonstrators’ ranks.

An armored unit was reported to have entered the ancient touristic bazaar of Souq Masqouf and started firing at the shops and its owners.

The mountains of al-Abboudiya, Jousiya, and Baalbek road in Qasir in Homs have been witnessing heavy military activities in the past two weeks. Over a dozen of military convoys stream through these areas daily under the coverage of warplanes and helicopters, flying low above the mountains. The regime is obviously preparing for a campaign against the Free Syrian Army hiding in the mountains in the surrounding areas. The regime realizes it cannot pierce through the ranks of soldiers fortified in mountains so it is planning to bomb them with jet planes.

In Idlib, Maaret Nuaman was invaded with armored units, and a makeshift refugee camp on the Turkish side of the border was attacked with heavy fire. Turkish sources confirmed that Assad loyalists have been conducting military operations on the bordering towns of Ain al-Baida, Bdama, Hambushiya, and Kherbet Jouz. The Assad forces have been chasing defected soldiers who ran towards Turkish territories.

The city of Hama was also invaded, by more than 30 armored units. At least nine were killed today all over Syria by the regime’s forces.

According to al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper, Assad recalled retired generals who participated in the 1982 massacres to quell the demonstrations. Those generals who were brought in at the start of the demonstrations included Intelligence Officers Ali Duba and Muhammad Khlui, and General Nayef al-Aqel.

Sources confirmed deliberations are underway to conduct one swift military operation in one area that would leave demonstrators traumatized and fearful. Many Alawite generals are refusing such actions, especially those who don’t yet have blood on their hands. That has caused the Assad to call for his father’s comrades.

حصلت عدّة انشقاقات في مطار مزّة العسكري في معضميّة الشام، حيث قام الجنود المنشَقُّون بالاشتباك مع الموالين داخل المطار ممَّا أدى إلى استقدام طائرات مروحيّة لإنهاء الاشتباكات الحاصلة. وتشهد منطقة ريف دمشق انشقاقات واشتباكات أسبوعيّاً منذ أكثر من شهر، ينتج عنها فرار المُنشقّين إلى المناطق مجاورة وملاحقتهم من قبل قوّات الأسد

واشتدَّت حملة الأسد العسكريّة في حمص، حيث قامت قوّات الأسد بمداهمة أحياء دير بعلبة والخالدية وكرم الشامي وباب الدريب وجوبر والبيّاضة وتل الشور ومركز المدينة وسوق الحشيش وحي الورشة وشارع أبو العوف ومحيط القلعة، ومدن الحولة وتلبيسة والقصير، بعشرات الباصات والعديد من الدبابات والمدرّعات وسيّارات البيك آب المحمّلة بالرشاشات. هذا ودخلت مدرّعة لأوَّل السوق المسقوف، أحد الأسواق الأثريّة، وأطلقت النار باتجاه المحلّات المغلقة بهدف إلحاق الضرر بالممتلكات الخاصة وأصحابها

وقد أفاد بعض عناصر الأمن المُنشقّين بأن ميليشيّات النظام تقوم باستعمال هويّات شخصيّة مزوّرة تحمل كنى عائلات معروفة بحمص كي يسهل اندساسهم بين الأهالي. وتشهد جبال منطقة العبّوديّة وجوسية وطريق بعلبك في القصير تحرّكات ضخمة لقوافل عسكريّة كبيرة في ظل تغطية جويّة كثيفة جداً من قبل طائرات نفّاثة وعاموديّة تطير على ارتفاع منخفض فوق الجبال. ويأتي ذلك تحضيراً لعمليّة عسكريّة ضد الجيش السوري الحر المتحصّن في المواقع المجاورة. وسوف تتضمّن هذه العمليّة قصفاً جوّياً إذ يصعب اختراق صفوف أيّ جيش محتمٍ بالجبال

وقد تعرّضت مدينة حماة أيضاً لاختراق من قبل أكثر من 30 مدرّعة، بينما تعرّضت معرّة النعمان في إدلب لاقتحام من قبل مدرّعات لقوّات الأسد. وقد قامت قُوّات الأسد بإطلاق النيران على الأراضي التركيّة باتجاه أحد مخيّمات اللاجئين على الحدود. وأكَّدت مصادر تركيّة قيام وحدات الأسد بعمليّات عسكريّة في عين البيضا وبداما والحمبوشيّة وخربة الجوز في محافظة إدلب. وتأتي هذه العمليّات بعد انشقاق عناصر الجيش وهروبهم باتّجاه الحدود التركيّة. وقد قتل تسعة على الأقل اليوم عبر سورية على أيدي قوّات الأمن والجيش

وأكّدت مصادر مُطّلعة أن الأسد يستعين بجنرالات عسكريّين متقاعدين ممن شاركوا في مجازر 1982 من أجل إخماد حركة الاحتجاجات الحاليّة. وقد تم استقدام الجنرالات المتقاعدين منذ بداية الاحتجاجات حيث عاد إلى القصر الرئاسي رجلا الاستخبارات علي دوبا ومحمد الخولي والجنرال نايف العاقل

وقالت المصادر أن "مداولات تجري بخصوص تنفيذ عملية عسكرية سريعة وحاسمة، توجه إلى منطقة واحدة وتُحدِث صدمة عميقة تُرعِب الشارع وتُجبِرُه على التزام الصمت". وقالت أنه "يوجد بين كبار الجنرالات العلويين من يُعارض هذا التوجه وبالأخص منهم من لم تتلوث يده بالدماء سابقاً، وأن هذا ما دفع الأسد لطلب العون من رفاق والده." ويحاول الأسد استقدام جنرالات من طوائف غير علويّة لكي لا يُوحِي بطائفيّة حكمه وقمعه
