Today’s Summary of Events

The intensification of Assad’s security crackdown continued for the second day, after the Arab League gave Assad a two weeks grace to end the unrest. At least fifteen were killed today as the regime launched massive security campaigns in the suburbs of Damascus, Daraa, and Homs. Three were killed in Homs, five in Daraa, one in Deir Azzour, and another in Boukamal.

The Damascus suburbs of Harasta, Moadamiya, Irbeen, Saqba, Hamuriya, Kafarbatna, Jesrain, Madeira, and Mesraba, were subjected to heavy crackdown, where over 40,000 soldiers from the Fourth Battalion led by Maher Assad, as well as the Republican Guard and Air Force Intelligence, invaded and laid siege upon these cities in search of defected soldiers. Armoured units, helicopters and tanks were brought in, snipers were spread on roofs, and a curfew was enforced to prevent even children from going out to schools. House-to-house searches took place, and dozens of arbitrary arrests occurred, sometimes encompassing entire families. Farms and shops were robbed and shut down, private property was burnt, and electricity and communications were cut off. Major defections took place in Irbeen resulting in clashes with security forces and an even more intense crackdown. Despite all that, demonstrators still managed to take to the streets of Saqba.

In Daraa, major defections took place in the cities of Nahta and Herak leading to clashes with security forces. Demonstrations in Mesaifra broke out in solidarity with the defectors but security forces opened heavy fire at them and dispersed them. A major arrests campaign took place in downtown Daraa, while student demonstrations went out in the towns of Jassem and Jeeza.

In Homs, a major military campaign commenced in al-Qasir, as a house-to-house search campaign began under the cover of heavy fire after massive reinforcements of armoured units and tanks were brought into the city after electricity and communications were cut off. The campaign included looting, theft, burning of farm lands and sabotage, and spanned from the city of al-Qasir and village of Talahmar through all the villages leading to Dosar. The border villages of Heet, Burhaniya, Saqarja, and Nizariya were also besieged, as dozens of tanks, armoured units and bulldozers rolled in and setup a barrier blocking off the Syrian-Lebanese borders. Participation of Hezbollah militants was confirmed in the security campaign where they turned wheat silos to detention units, and schools to operation bases. As for Talbisa, Assad militiamen are still trying to force parents to send their sons to school but are failing.

In the neighbourhoods of Homs, machinegun fire was shot from checkpoints and security bases as usual in Khaldiya, Bayada, Bab Sebaa, Bab Draib, Karm Zaytoun, and Nazhin; and demonstrations went out as always in Waar, Qosur, Inshaat, Ghouta, Hamra, Shammas, Jorat Arayes, Baba Amr, Jorat Shayah, Qarabis, Khaldiya, Bayada, Deir Baalba, Karm Zaytoun, Nazhin, Jab Jandali, Hai Ashira, Bab Hood, Maidan, and Bab Sebaa; and the cities and towns of Houleh, Palmyra, and Qasir. Security forces opened fire at demonstrators to disperse them.

The Syrian prisoner released by Israeli forces within a prisoners swap deal with Hamas, Weyam Amasha, reached his home in the Golan Heights today. Amasha, his family, and friends refused to raise the picture of Bashar Assad in their ceremony today, therefore Syrian and Lebanese Hezbollah-aligned media outlets ignored covering his release. Amasha has earlier voiced his support of the revolution from inside his prison cell and went on a food strike in protest to Assad’s crimes against the peaceful demonstrators.

الأسد يحاصر ريف دمشق بأكثر من أربعين ألف عنصر جيش

ما زالت حملة الأسد الأمنيّة مستمرّة لليوم الثاني في سورية بعد إعطاء جامعة الدول العربيّة الأسد مهلة أسبوعين لإيقاف المظاهرات. فقد وقع 15 قتيلاً في سورية بسبب شنِّ قوّات الأمن والفرقة الرابعة حملات أمنيّة واسعة في ريف دمشق وريف درعا وريف حمص بعد انشقاق عناصر من الجيش واشتباكها مع قوّات الأمن. وسقط ثلاثة قتلى في حمص، وخمسة في ريف درعا، وقتيل في دير الزور وآخر في البوكمال

وتعرّضت مدن حرستا ومعضميّة الشام وعربين وسقبا وحموريّة وكفربطنا وجسرين ومديرة ومسرابا في ريف دمشق لحملات أمنيّة ومداهمات من قبل أكثر من أربعين ألف عنصر من الفرقة الرابعة بقيادة ماهر الأسد والحرس الجمهوري والمخابرات الجوية، حيث أن هناك حصاراً كاملاً من قوّات عسكريّة وأمنيّة كبيرة، مع انتشار القناصة على أسطح البنايات والرشاشات الثقيلة على سيّارات الجيش والأمن. ومنعت هذه القوّات الأهالي والموظفين والطلاب من الخروج إلى أعمالهم ومدارسهم. وتم تنفيذ عمليّة تمشيط كاملة للأراضي والبيوت مع اعتقالات عشوائيّة طالت العشرات بحثاً عن منشقين عن الجيش. وتخلّلت هذه الحملات اعتقالات عشوائيّة شملت عائلات بأكملها ومداهمة مزارع وبيوت وإغلاق كامل للمحال التجارية وحرق للممتلكات و قطع كامل للاتصالات. وحصل انشقاق كبير في صفوف الجيش والأمن بمدينة عربين مما أدّى إلى اندلاع اشتباكات عنيفة مع الأمن. واستعملت الفرقة الرابعة المروحيات في حملتها اليوم. وخرجت مظاهرات في سقبا على الرغم من ذلك، وقامت الفرقة الرابعة بإطلاق النار عليها

وفي درعا، حصلت انشقاقات كبيرة في صفوف الجيش في مدن ناحتة والحراك بريف درعا، واندلعت اشتباكات عنيفة هلى إثرها. وخرجت مظاهرات في المسيفرة تهتف للحراك، وقامت قوّات الأمن بإطلاق النار عليها. وتم شن حملة اعتقالات اليوم في درعا البلد، بينما خرجت مظاهرات طلّابيّة بمدينتي جاسم والجيزة

وفي حمص، بدأت عمليّة أمنيّة وعسكريّة واسعة في القصير. فبَعدَ وُصُول تعزيزات عسكريّة كبيرة للمدينة وقراها وانتشار الدبابات والمدرّعات والآليّات العسكريّة وقطع التيّار الكهربائي وكافّة وسائل الاتّصالات الأرضيّة والخليوية قامت قوّات الأمن بحملة تفتيش ودهم وتمشيط وتخريب ونهب ابتداء من قرية تلحمر ووصولاً إلى دوسر. وتمَّت هذه الحملة تحت غطاء إطلاق نار كثيف مع محاولة إغلاق الحدود اللبنانيّة السوريّة بالمتاريس ووصول أكثر من عشرين آليّة ومدرّعة إلى قرية هيت الحدوديّة وعزلها بشكل كامل. وطالت الحملة أيضاً قرى البرهانيّة وهيت وسقرجة والنزاريّة وتم إحراق العديد من الأراضي الزراعيّة. وتم تأكيد مشاركة عناصر من حزب الله في الحملة الأمنيّة، حيث قاموا بتحويل مباني صوامع الحبوب إلى مراكز اعتقال، بينما تحوّلت المدار إلى مقار لعناصر قوى الأمن وميليشيّات الأسد وحزب الله. أمّا في تلبيسة فما زالت محاولة إجبار الأهالي لإرسال أطفالهم إلى المدارس مستمرّة ولكنها ما زالت تبوء بالفشل

وفي أحياء حمص، أُطلِقت النيران كالعادة من الحواجز على الخالديّة والبيّاضة وباب السباع وباب الدريب وكرم الزيتون والنازحين. وكالعادة أيضاً خرجت مظاهرات في الوعر والقصور والإنشاءات والغوطة والحمرا والشمّاس وجورة العرايس وبابا عمرو وجورة الشيّاح والقرابيص والخالديّة والبيّاضة ودير بعلبة وكرم الزيتون والنازحين وجب الجندلي وحي عشيرة وباب هود والميدان وباب السباع، ومدن وبلدات الحولة وتدمر والقصير. وتم إطلاق النيران على المظاهرات لتفريقها

وقد وصل إلى الجولان الأسير المحرّر وئام عماشة بموجب صفقة تبادل الأسرى بين حماس وإسرائيل. ورفض وئام عماشة وعائلته ومستقبِلوه رفع صور بشار الأسد في مهرجان استقباله، لذا تجاهلت كل وسائل الإعلام السورية وقناة المنار اللبنانية إطلاق وئام عماشة. وكان وئام عماشة قد أيّد الثورة السوريّة منذ بداياتها من داخل زنزانته وأعلن إضراباً عن الطعام بسبب جرائم النظام ضد المتظاهرين السلميّين
