Today’s Summary of Events
The Spokesperson of the Syrian National Council (SNC) Basma
Kodmani said that the SNC delegate’s visit to Cairo will
advocate the suspension of Syria’s membership in the Arab
League. At the same time, members of the SNC are meeting in
Stockholm to discuss strategies to topple the regime.
More than 100,000 demonstrators went out today in Qamishli
for the funeral procession of Mishal Tammo, who was
assassinated yesterday by the regime at his house. Security
forces attempted to stop the crowds from reaching the
graveyard by firing teargas and live rounds at demonstrators,
killing six civilians. Consequently, the funeral procession
turned into massive demonstrations calling for the execution
of the president. Massive demonstrations also broke out for
Mishal Tammo, in Ifreen and Kobani in Aleppo suburbs,
Qnaines in Latakia, and Derbasiya, Amuda, and Srikaniya (Ras
al-Ain) in Hasaka.
Fourteen civilians were killed today by Assad’s forces
during security operations and funeral processions, as
mourners were fired upon in Homs and in the suburbs of
Damascus. Two were killed in the Damascus suburb of Douma
and one in Dameer, while one was killed in Bab Sbaa, one in
Deir Baalba, and three in Homs.
In the meantime, Hama underwent heavy military operations as
security forces besieged the city with more than a hundred
armoured units and buses filled with Assad mercenaries,
amidst heavy machinegun fire on Irbin square, Qosur, Mizrab
Bridge, Jibrin, and Fraya. In Idlib, Assad forces invaded
Saraqeb, while the Free Syrian Army engaged with Assad’s
army. In Homs, the army besieged the villages of Jusiya and
Nizariya with dozens of armoured units blocking access to
the Lebanese border. |
