SNC
Leadership Meets With Turkish FM
Davutoğlu: The SNC Has Become a True
Representative Of The Will Of The Syrians
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoğlu, confirmed
that Turkey will partner with the Arab League to work on immediate and
complete implementation of the decisions issued in Cairo by the Arab
Ministerial Council regarding Syria.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Executive Office of the
Syrian National Council in Ankara on Sunday, 13 November, Davutoğlu
clarified that a timetable for implementing the details of the decisions
will be discussed during a meeting in Rabat on 16 November, which will
be held on the side of the Arab-Turkish Forum. Violations committed by
the Syrian regime and noncompliance with the Cairo decisions will be
reviewed during that meeting.
The Minister held the Syrian regime responsible for the attacks against
the Turkish Embassy in Damascus and the Turkish Consulates in each of
Latakia and Aleppo. He also said that the regime allowed nearly 1000
people to attack the Embassy for two hours without security intervention
to stop them, pointing out that his instructions to the ambassador were
to make no concessions.
Davutoğlu also expressed satisfaction with the successes that the Syrian
National Council has achieved despite the short time since its
formation, and confirmed Turkey’s readiness to provide all types of
support necessary to ensure the Council’s success and its ability to
carry out its duties in serving the Syrian cause. Davutoğlu added that
Turkey recognizes the Council as a political framework, which represents
the will of the Syrian People and the Revolutionary youth inside Syria.
On his part, Dr. Burhan Ghalioun, the president of the National Council,
expressed his appreciation for the role of Turkey in supporting the
Syrian People and allowing the opposition to meet with no restrictions.
Dr. Ghalioun also confirmed that the Council denounces the actions of
“Shabiha” (armed state-hired civilians) of the Syrian regime in burning
the Turkish flag, describing the behavior of the Syrian regime as being
more of a “guerrilla” behavior.
Dr. Ghalioun said that the decisions of the Arab League were the result
of the struggles of the Syrian People over the past eight months and
also the result of the efforts put forth by the National Council through
its hard work and persistence with Arab and International diplomats over
several weeks.
The Turkish Minister called for supporting the National Council by
holding a council of the foreign ministers of member nations of the
Organization of Islamic Cooperation to freeze the Syrian regime’s
membership, recall ambassadors, and impose economic sanctions, as well
as support efforts to provide International protection for Syrian
civilians.
Minister Davutoğlu held a dinner banquet in honor of the delegation of
the Syrian National Council.
