The historical
story of Osroene and today’s Keserwen:
Urhoy is
located on the Balikh River, in the North-Western region of Beth-Nahreen
(Mesopotamia), between the two great rivers Euphrates and Tigris, in the
Middle East.
Through its
long history the city of Urhoy had several names:
Urhoy (in
Western Aramaic/Syriac), Urhay (in Eastern Aramaic/Syriac), Urfa (in
Turkish), Al- Ruha (in Arabic), Edessu (in ancient Assyrian/Akkadian), and
Edessa (in European languages).
The Art,
History, Culture, and Language, of this ancient city that was blessed by
Jesus Christ, and which became the capital of the Kingdom of Osroene, the
first kingdom in the world that adopted Christianity as the official state
religion under its King Abgar (V) Ukomo who was contemporary to Jesus
Christ, corresponded with him and was healed by St. Mor Adai (one of his 70
disciples). In Lebanon, Maronites (migrated Aramaic/Syriac´s), feeling
nostalgia for Osroene, attributed the name Kosroene for a part of Lebanon
Mountains from Osroene to Kosroene Lebanon and Osroene are related. Kosroene
is a region in Lebanon that has its roots stretching to Osroene. The added
"K" in its name means "Like" or "Similar To". In other words "Kosroene" mean
"Like Osroene".
It was named
that way by the Marde who came to Lebanon from the regions of the Mountain
of Nimrud and Mardin in Osroene (located in northern Mesopotamia). Even one
of their princes was said to have the name Kosro.
Another relation is revealed when we talk about the habitants (Maronites) of
Zgharta or Al-Zawiyah in North Lebanon, they are called till now Marada,
just with keeping their attachment for their
ancestor
land in Mardin, part of Kingdom of Osroene. |
