The free democratic Lebanon is loosing

080417

In Lebanon the political arena has since 2005 been divided between 2 major camps.

One is the alliance of 8th of March witch consist of the Shiite Islamic extremist group of Hezballa and the Shiite moderate Amal movement together with the moderate Christian party of former General Michel Aoun and many smaller parties and leaders, such as the Nasserite, the Syrian Baath and the Syrian Nationalist Socialist party.

The second alliance gathers the Christian Kataeb party, Lebanese Forces party and other smaller Christian parties together with the Druze Socialist party of Walid Jumblat and the biggest Sunni Muslim movement of the late Rafic Hariri, the Future movement.

The first camp is mainly supported by Syria and Iran while the second one is supported by the Arab League, the United States of America, the European Union and the United Nations.

The 14th of March came from the spirit of the Cedars Revolution but they have not made the right steps towards the stable and democratic Lebanon this revolution occurred for.

The 8th of March is winning their war against the 14th of March by blocking everything in the country and stopping all kinds of development.

Short review that shows what the alliance of Syria and Iran has done:

1. They entered the government and resigned leaving the government halting.

2. They got the country in a war with Israel that cost Lebanon much more than it can afford, in billions and in lives.

3. It blocked the International court for Lebanon for long time until the UN made it under chapter 7.

4. They have closed the parliament since late 2006.

5. They made all kind of violent demonstrations and strikes.

6. They put the Lebanese Government and UN office in Beirut under siege.

7. They stopped all attempts to re-elect a President for the Republic.

8. Direct of indirect have contributed to lack of security resulting in explosions in Beirut.

The only thing the 14th of March has been able to do is to defend their personal positions as much as they can through the defence of the government.

The Lebanese political arena is with other words divided mainly by 2 camps, one is bad and one is worse.

The world is once again forgetting the Lebanese issue and once again the Syrian interest in Lebanon is winning.
