You have destroyed
my life completely, it is enough

With tears from his eyes and a
broken heart, Daoud Aoun from the Bekaa valley in Lebanon is celebrating the
Syrian Arab Baath military withdrawal from Lebanon after more than 30 years
of occupation. He is celebrating but he has a big sorrow in his life and a
black stone on his chest. He shares this with so many among the Lebanese
people. His life has been turned apart since 1982 when the Syrian
intelligence forces came in to his home and took his son George Daoud Aoun,
15 years back than to a Syrian controlled prison in Lebanon and later to one
of the famous prisons in Syria.
Daoud is over 70 years old and he
has been waiting for his son to return from that day in 1982, 3 days before
Israel invaded parts of Lebanon.
George Daoud Aoun was only a
teenager of 15 years; he was a school boy and not a militia gunman. 23 years
now and his parents are still waiting for him and they can’t let go of the
idea of seeing him soon.
The mother is consequently at the
hospital and the father is at bad health but still standing in front of the
UN building in Beirut with tears in his eyes holding a picture of his son. I
took the chance to talk to him while being a part of a car convoy made of 30
cars touring Beirut demanding the resolution 1559 being implemented
completely. I must say that Daoud´s story and the way he was telling it, so
simple and sad got to me and gave me a feeling of sorrow and more motivation
for the good work against all the injustice left in Lebanon because of the
many occupations the country have seen in latest 30 years.
A Daoud´s word to the Syrians regime
was: You have destroyed my house, enough! |
