Syria Appoints a
Palestinian as Top Syrian Air Force General
Washington DC,
September 21, 2004 /RPS News/
-- The General Directorate of the Syrian Armed Forces appointed Maj. Gen.
Hazem Al-Khadra'a head of the Syrian Air Force.
Maj. Gen. Al-Kadra'a is of Palestinian origins, he is
the brother of Gen. Mohammed Tarek al-Kadra'a, the Chief of Staff
of the Palestinian Liberation Army in Syria.
Prior to his
appointment, Maj.
Gen.
Al-Kadra'a was the commanding officer of the Kalkala
air force base in Al-Swayda'a south of Syria.
This appointment,
although not new in the Syrian army by a high ranking officer of
Palestinian origins, is viewed as a confirmation of Syrian support for the
Palestinian cause due to the connection that the appointed General has
with he Palestinian Liberation Army.
By coincidence,
this is the position that Hafez al-Assad occupied when his revolution of
March 8, 1963 brought the Ba'ath to power and drove Syria down the path to
despotism.
