Washington DC, November 13, 2004 /RPS News/ - The Democratic National Coalition, a Syrian coalition made-up of five Syrian opposition parties, and headed by Hassan Abdul Azim, known for his close relations with the dictatorship in Damascus, has issued a Press Release against the United States for its actions in Fallujah.

The press release starts: "To the Tyrannical Occupying Superpower: Lift your bloody hands off of Fallujah --from our brotherly Iraq --and keep your fake democracy that usually is accompanied by tanks, airplanes, and destruction of Iraq."

It goes on to explain, in graphic details, what is happening in Fallujah. Of course, Mr. Abdul Azim forgot to mention that Mr. Mohammed al-Jundi, the driver of the two French journalists kidnapped by unknown assailants, has been recovered from one of the homes in Fallujah.

Mr. Abdul Azim has struggled, due to his loyalty to the regime, with the other opposition legitimate leaders such as Riad al-Turk. He is mistrusted by many legitimate reformists and was recently caught attending a Ba'ath party sponsored-event in a hotel in Damascus.

In the past, the Syrian government has used, in addition to its own biased propaganda machine, an infiltrated opposition in order to provide the credibility factor. Most Syrians view Fallujah as a terrorist haven yet from the press release, one gets the impression that the average Syrian man on the street opposes the United States and its actions. In reality, he understands that this is a power struggle to re-instate totalitarian regime.

Some in the U.S. administration have, in the past, stated their concerns privately over the credibility of some reformists inside Syria. They say that unless real reformists, who truly value democracy, are encouraged then reforms in Syria are doomed.

Washington DC, November 12, 2004 /RPS News/ - In a new Conference with Prime Minister Blair, President Bush reiterated the importance of helping countries in the Middle East achieve and build democracy.

President Bush has been steady in his calls for democracy throughout his tenure as President. His latest reiteration came as a result of the death of Yasser Arafat and the determination of the US and Britain to help the Palestinians build a democracy free from corruption.

At one point President Bush said :"[We] are going to work flat out to deliver [democracy in the Middle East]. But people have to understand that we can't deliver something unless the people whom it affects actually want it to happen" thus sending a signal to all the people of the Middle East to rise and show that democracy is their aim.
